JOHN ALLEMANN

Henry Butty (born 1962 in Ursy) turned to painting after a career in graphic design and illustration. For several years he has run a drawing workshop for teenagers and adults.

A solitary and optimistic artist, he finds refuge in his studio: a space of freedom where gesture becomes language. Drawing on the traces left by ancient societies, he develops an uncluttered style of painting in search of a more direct relationship with the world.

His works bring forth primordial landscapes and visions inspired by shamanism and early civilization, where human, animal and nature intertwine. His compositions, at once suspended and enigmatic, leave viewers free to carry the story forward.

One question guides his work: how can pure emotion be made to emerge through a minimalist language, without additions or embellishments ?
